Marcus Cetius Fauentinus is probably to be dated to the 3rd century AD. Cetius uses Vitruvius’ De architectura as one of his sources, which provides a terminus post quem. Cetius is in his turn is used by Palladius, which provides a terminus ante quem. The chronological margins for his activity are the 1st century BC and the 5th century AD. Cetius Fauentinus wrote a compendium of architecture, which has come to us under three different titles: Artis architectonicae priuatis usibus adbreuiatus liber, Capitula artis architectonicae de diuersis fabricis and De diuersis fabricis architectonicae. The work is essentially an abridged adaptation or, rather, almost an epitomized version of its main source, Vitruvius’ De architectura. [D. Paniagua; tr. L. Battezzato]
