Information about this mysterious grammarian is virtually nonexistent.  Only a very short Fragmentum of his work survives, from which we may gather that he must have been a teacher.  Kaster proposes without much conviction that he can be identified with the Tiberius Claudius Maximus Donatianus, to whom his father, Tiberius Claudius Donatus, dedicated his Interpretationes Vergilianae.  As for his dating, if we accept his use of Charisius’ Ars grammatica (perhaps in a fuller version, according to Barwick), rather than one of Charisius’ sources, we may place his life after the second half of the 4^th c.  The most recent scholar to return to this question is J. Uria Varela (2007), noting that the author of the Fragmentum was probably of western origin, since he translates citations of Greek.  [A. Balbo – S. Mollea; tr. C. L. Caterine].
