saec. V-VI
The Commentariolum super Thebaiden was attributed to Fulgentius, the bishop of Ruspe (467-533 AD), on the basis of a title that appears in one of the two manuscripts reporting the text: Sancti Fulgencii Episcopi super Thebaiden (Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, lat. 3012, 60v-54r, end of the 12th – beginning of the 13th c.). Since critics now reject this attribution, however, it has also been questioned whether the text was even written in late antiquity: indeed, one may note many similarities between the Commentariolum and exegetical material on the Thebaid that was produced between 1100 and 1300 AD [A. Borgna; tr. C. L. Caterine].
