Our information on Vinidarius is very scant.  He seems to have been a Goth (his name would originally have been ‘Vinithatharjis’), and the language of his work suggests that he lived in Italy between the end of the 5^th and the start of the 6^th c. AD.  He was probably a scientist, and he must also have been interested in cooking; indeed, he claims to have compiled a collection of excerpta from the books of Apicius, as can be seen in the title under which these excerpts appear in the only manuscript that preserves them: Apici excerpta a Vinidario vir inl. [A. Borgna; tr. C. L. Caterine].
