saec. V / VI
Our information on Vinidarius is very scant. He seems to have been a Goth (his name would originally have been ‘Vinithatharjis’), and the language of his work suggests that he lived in Italy between the end of the 5th and the start of the 6th c. AD. He was probably a scientist, and he must also have been interested in cooking; indeed, he claims to have compiled a collection of excerpta from the books of Apicius, as can be seen in the title under which these excerpts appear in the only manuscript that preserves them: Apici excerpta a Vinidario vir inl. [A. Borgna; tr. C. L. Caterine].
