Caelius Aurelianus, Gynaecia. Fragments of a Latin version of Soranus' Gynaecia, from a thirteenth century manuscript, edited by Miriam F. Drabkin and Israel E. Drabkin, Baltimore 1951

A single manuscript (New York, Academy of Medecine Libr. 2 E) transmits the text of Caelius Aurelianus' Gynaecia. The text was in fact manipulated in the Middle Ages. It contains a medley of passages derived from two Latin translations of Soranus' Γυναικεῖα, one by Mustio, the other one by Caelius Aurelianus. The text explicitly indicates the origin of each section, telling readers when a transition from one translation to the other occurs.

The text is divided into two books. The first book is on pregnancy, development of the foetus, and care needed by newborns. The second book discusses a variety of gynaecological illnesses and pathologies. [D. Paniagua; trad. L. Battezzato]
