Reference edition:

Caeli Aureliani, De salutaribus praeceptis item De significatione diaeticarum passionum, in Anecdota graeca et graecolatina, edidit Valentin Rose, Amsterdam 1963

The text De salutaribus praeceptis is apparently a fragment from Celius Aurelianus’ Medicinales responsiones,  an introductory medical textbook in at least nine books. The fragment was give the title De salutaribus praeceptis by the German philologist Valentin Rose, who edited it in 1864. The presentation of the tenets of medicine follows the expository technique of erotapokrisis, illustrating the subject through a series of questions and answers.

In spite of the fragmentary state of the text, the presence of a preface addressed to a Lucretius and the general character of the quaestiones, which concern the definition of sanitas and the choice of healthy habits. allow us to suppose that the passage was from the beginning of a book, perhaps even from the beginning of the first book.

This fragment and the text De speciali significatione diaeticarum passionum are the only  extant remains of the lost work Medicinales responsiones. [D. Paniagua; translation L. Battezzato]
