Artis architectonicae priuatis usibus adbreuiatus liber is the standard title of the compendium of architecture written by Marcus Cetius Faventinus. Modern editors – V. Rose, F. Krohn e M.-Th. Cam – gave their preference to this title, which is present in the Vienna and Sélestat manuscripts, over the other two extant titles: Capitula artis architectonicae de diuersis fabricis (transmitted in the Valenciennes manuscript) and De diuersis fabricis architectonicae (transmitted in the manuscripts Parisinus lat. 10277 and Vat. Reg. lat. 1504). The work is essentially an abridged adaptation or, rather, almost an epitomized version of its main source, Vitruvius’ De architectura. In the preface, Cetius Faventinus explains the reasons that made him write his work; he then illustrates the main pieces of theoretical knowledge required by the ars aedificandi (1-2), and goes on to offer indications on water (3-7), on building materials (8-12), on different types of buildings (13-17), on finish and decorative works  (18-27), and on measuring instruments (28-29).
