This very short fragment, which comprises only two pages in Keil’s monumental edition of the Grammatici Latini, appears to be all that remains of the only treatise de analogia that is attested in the Latin language. Starting from the assumption loquendi facultatem usus invenit, ratio comprobavit, the author’s intention must have been to concentrate on the concepts of etymology and analogy as divisions of ratio. What survives to us is the beginning of a reflection on analogy.  Though admittedly based on scant evidence, there appear to be some obvious similarities with certain sections of Charisius’ Ars.  [S.
