The short veterinarian treatise Curae boum ex corpore Gargili Martialis, transmitted by the manuscript Leiden, Voss. lat. F. 71, is not an authentic work by Gargilius Martialis, at least not in the form in which it has come to us. The study of style and syntax of Gargilius rules out this possibility.

As indicated by the title, the short work lists a series of medicaments and magical-medical remedies for restoring health to sick oxen. Cures are presented more or less in accordance with the criterion generally adopted in medical texts (a capite ad calcem). Occasional parallelisms with texts by Cato, Columella, Pliny, Vegetius, with the Mulomedicina Chironis, and with Pelagonius occur; the author of the Curae boum may have used these texts as sources for his work, which may in fact  be no more than a collection of veterinarian excerpts. The date of the work is unknown. On the basis of the parallels mentioned above, recent studies have suggested that the work was written in the fifth century AD or later.
