Reference edition:
Fragmentsammlung der Griechischen Ärzte. I Die Fragmente der Sikelischen Ärzte Akron, Philistion und des Diokles von Karystos, herausgegeben von M. Wellmann, Berlin 1901, 208-234.
The paternity of this text is discussed: Wellmann supports Vindicianus, but Debru disagrees. The Medicorum placita is transmitted by a single manuscript (Brussels, Bibl. Royale 1342-1350, ff. 48ra-52vb). The work is our only testimony for a remarkable number of doxographical notices. The start of the work is dedicated to semen (1-8) and related topics (9-16); it subsequently treats respiration and the senses (17-23), then three issues related to women: menstruation, fertilization, and conception of twins (24-6). The work’s second part treats various maladies (27-39), while the final chapters deal with the physiopathology of mental functions (40-44). In his critical edition, Rose considers §14-16 to be ‘Redaction B’ (Rose 1901: 451-5). [M. E. Vázquez Buján; tr. C. L. Caterine].
